アヴェイラブルは、私が推測した「予約」という意味ではなかったw。「可能」の状態。形容詞。だった。I am available for 〜ing(名詞). と使う。私が聞いていた英会話は、「You are available for reservation.」
Checking the Meaning of “Available”
It turns out “available” didn’t mean “reservation” like I had guessed (lol). It’s an adjective that means “possible”. You use it like “I am available for 〜ing (or a noun).” In the English conversation I heard, they had just omitted everything after “for”, as in “You are available for reservation.” That makes sense. Even in Japanese, we say things like “If it’s (time/date), it’s available.” Sure, sometimes we say, Reservations are available for (time/date),”but we don’t always add that whole phrase.
So, the “Great Detective’s” week-long deduction turned out to be totally wrong. But it was fun (lol).
My current method for studying English focuses heavily on thinking. It’s completely different from my previous study methods that relied solely on memorization. I feel like this approach really suits me. I have so many things I want to express and communicate. I’m just the type of person who can’t help but share what I feel, regardless of the language (lol).
That’s why the 25 minutes always fly by in an instant. Plus, I’m doing 90% of the talking (lol). The teacher listens attentively to me while I speak, without caring about bad grammar or vocabulary mistakes. Come to think of it, during our first lesson, when I described a wheelchair as a “car chair”, the teacher immediately realized what I meant and taught me,”Ah, wheelchair”(lol). Because the teacher is Japanese, she understands my Japanese-style English and catch the drift of what I want to say. Then, at the end, they teach me practical English, saying, “It’s better to express it like this”.
It’s not just about “correct” English. That makes total sense. In Japanese, does anyone actually speak “correct” Japanese in daily conversation? Sometimes language and expression exist precisely because they transcend grammar to convey something. Expressing things – that’s probably what the teacher is teaching me. Well, probably because that’s what I want.
A student who wants to be able to use English because I want to know the world, not for the TOEIC or for work. A student who asks questions with an obsessive focus on the nuances of words (lol). “What is this word?” “It’s similar to this one, but how is it different?” “Is it correct to use it this way?” “How do you choose between them?” Every 25 minutes passes in a flash. And then, for another week, I listen to video recommendations from the teacher and stockpile things I want to ask them in my own unique style of English.
Now, let’s see what kind of results this “thinking-focused, internal-language/expression-oriented English learning method”(lol) will bring!
